Last week we got into the Spooky Season spirit by talking about the looming shadow caused by the uptick in layoffs at the beginning of the year. But, we had our reasons for not fearing those frightful layoffs! Well, far be it from us here at WLS to disappoint. A recent article from U.S. Weekly, last accessed October 26th, has shone a spotlight on October’s employment statistics–particularly for the business and service industries. Now, along with business and service, the Labor Department has also confirmed several others as having well exceeded prior employment expectations–among these: finance, insurance, education, and the local and federal government sectors. And although the next labor report will give us a better idea as to whether this success is short-lived, we’d like to remain optimistic. So, what’s the takeaway? Our award for scariest costume this year goes to Winter Layoffs! Our suggestion for the month-end is to eat some candy, watch a scary movie, and remember that we can’t always predict the future of employment. We can, however, relish in the unexpected boost in the American workforce after a period of unsure decline!
